Comparison is the best way to kill one’s individuality.

We’re in a time where we compare ourselves to others having a better lifestyle than us, living a happier life than us.

Is it a healthy thing to do? Will it lead us somewhere better?

NO. It’s making us hollow beings. Living without the feeling of self-satisfaction is the worst way to live, when you aren’t happy with what you have and what you are or when there’s a lack of self worth it becomes difficult to survive. How? You ask!

Well, it is the worst way to kill one’s individuality where we forget who we are and try to be someone else. We envy them, make ourselves vulnerable and lose our peace of mind trying to be like someone else.

A famous quote by Zen Shin says-

A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it, IT JUST BLOOMS.

It’s good to get inspired by others. It’s totally healthy to try to achieve a goal and give a competition, but there’s a fine line between getting inspired and comparing your life to an extend where you start to feel your life is less astonishing and you start to lose confidence.

Let’s keep it straight and do the sane thing because our life is not less than others. We should get inspired and not competitive. Because what we have, is pretty much everything we need. Other’s success shouldn’t bother us.

  1. Unfortunately when children and teens are tested for proficiency in schools they are compared with the group with a particular score that is arbitrarily chosen. So naturally kids compare themselves with each other and the “in” group sets the culture to which one must conform to be successful and accepted. Your post is a refreshing essay for a change in thinking. Thanks for your recent visit to my blog.

  2. My two furry friends and myself find your words inspiring.
It´s a pity that “modern” societies appear to place so much value upon competing against one another. You are indeed correct when you say that comparison brings about hollow beings. The individual will become empty inside if they constantly avoid searching for the beauty within themselves. The journey of discovering oneself is indeed, a difficult path but one which is certainly worth the effort.
Mr Midnight points out that the journey of self-discovery is perhaps often avoided simply because we as humans have become too comfortable in our ways. At the same time we appear to become more removed from our centre and become more dissatisified into the bargain as most of our societies in the world become evident.
Sir Winston adds that we do kill our individuality by simply comparing and copying what others and “copying and comparing to others” will never satisfy our soul.
Kind regards from the “Gilmours Nice Place” blog. 🙂

    1. First of all, thank you so much for your heart warming comment and appreciating it so much.
And yes, indeed it’s really sad that in modern society competition is always on. There’s this race to be as successful as the other and in that face we forget who we are.
Copying and comparing of course won’t get anyone even near to success.
Till the time a person maintains his/her individuality, it would be easier to live and to be happy.
      Once again, thank you. 🙂

  3. Comparison is a thief of Joy . It does no good to any individual whosoever . Each individual is different from one another and that is what it makes LIFE beautiful . Celebrating uniqueness is important instead we try to be someone else or copy someone else’s lifestyle in that process we are jeopardizing our inner peace.
